💛 Our Mission & Why Wonderland of Learning Exists

 Wonderland of Learning Virtual Academy began during the pandemic so children could continue learning, feel safe, and stay connected during an uncertain time.

What many families don’t know is why this work is so personal to me.

As a child, I struggled deeply with reading and comprehension. I often felt behind, overwhelmed, and judged.

One of the first books I ever finished completely on my own was Alice in Wonderland. That moment — the “I did it!” — changed everything for me. It gave me confidence and showed me that I could succeed as a learner.

That experience inspired the name Wonderland of Learning. I wanted to create a place where children feel supported, capable, and proud of themselves — and where they can experience that same moment of confidence.

My late father was an English professor and later a college president. He believed deeply that education should be accessible to everyone.

He created programs that helped low-income students earn college degrees when traditional pathways were not available to them.

When I struggled with reading and comprehension as a child, my father taught me with patience, kindness, and love. His belief in education, access, and opportunity is a big part of why I do this work today.

My late husband, Ron, shared this mission with me.

Before he became ill, Ron helped me teach classes. He spent his career serving and protecting young people as a:

• Juvenile Probation Officer

• Security Officer
   

Together, we also taught English online to students in Japan — something Ron was especially proud of because of his Japanese heritage.

This mission continues the work, love, and purpose we built together.

Over the past six years, Wonderland of Learning has grown far beyond what I ever imagined.

I have supported over 900 children across 18 countries,

This academy does not replace Wonderland of Learning — it expands our reach so we can support even more children worldwide.

For every class or program a family purchases, learning access is set aside for a child who needs additional support with:

• ESL / English learning
   

This includes children in:

• Foster care
   
• Family shelters
   
• Low-income households
   
• International ESL communities
   
• Families who rely on Brain Bites Learning Videos
